Van Horn Ministry Trip - June 2007

Sharon & Bekka

Ministering to the wounded……….. Sharing God’s hope of healing

(BEKKA): In His Word, God tells us: "Delight yourself in [Me] and [I] will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4).
My dad taught me a long time ago that God actually places those desires inside of our hearts. In the case of my mom and myself, He has placed within us a desire to minister to wounded people. Because God has placed these desires in our hearts and wants to see His people healed and restored, He has opened up another opportunity for us to minister in England and Austria in June 2007.

God has really been teaching and equipping us for what I believe is a new chapter in our spiritual journey with Him. For the past year, I have been working with under-prepared students at a small, private college. I was hired as a Writing Instructor/Specialist, but God’s plan has been so much greater than I could ever have imagined. He has provided several opportunities for me to fearlessly share my faith with some of my students. He has also allowed me to serve as a counselor and encourager to a number of students—particularly those considered the most “mischievous.” God has truly granted me favor in their eyes to the point where, in their own words, “We’d do anything for you, Bekka,” even if it means abstaining from the “things of this world.” I have also been serving as a high school youth leader for the past couple of years, which provided a spiritual training ground for me. I am looking forward to utilizing my experiences to minister to the youth in Austria and England, where I am set to speak to young people. I believe God is expanding my generations.ministry and wants to use me to impact future

(SHARON): “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven…..” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

As I walk with the Lord each day and seek His wisdom and direction, I have been learning the importance of recognizing God’s timing in matters. There are two types of time. Chronos is time as we experience in everyday life. Kairos is time when God breaks in and does something supernatural. I have experienced such a time in the past few months as God has led me into a new season. I have been serving Him for the past eleven years through Milligan’s Island. There have been countless Kairos encounters with people in the secular marketplace, as God used me to bring hope and encouragement into the business world.

After finishing my daytime job, I have often counseled young people, adults, couples and families. I have used lessons I learned through the Bible, as well as my training as a Victim Chaplain, to coach and mediate contentious relationships. Even though Milligan’s Island served as my full-time job, counseling has really been my heart’s desire – to see people experience freedom and healing, enabling them to grow, develop, and become all God has destined them to be.

As I took on more counselees, I prayed God would allow me to minister to the wounded full time. God clearly answered my prayer. At the end of 2006, He directed me to prepare for a new season and pray for prayer and financial partners in this ministry. The Directors of Life Connections, Inc. followed the pattern of Acts 13:2 and “set me apart to the work the Holy Spirit has called and prepared me to do” on April 30th.

There are many counselees who cannot afford a counselor or mediator but need help dealing with the trauma and abuse they have endured. On behalf of individuals such as these who cannot afford to pay for the help they need, I am praying for sponsors who (through God’s leading) are willing to help pay for the counseling these people require.

Please pray and ask God what part you have in this ministry. He will direct you. I would appreciate knowing His response to your prayers. Thank you.
